The Grand Junction Community Center committee is hoping for many more treats than tricks this Friday, Halloween. A pair of fundraisers are slated as the committee is working to raise the last $110,000 needed to match a potential Vision Iowa grant for $250,000.
Folks who attend a soup supper at the St Brigid Parish Center may have a hard time deciding if the highlight of the meal is the chili or potato soup or mayor Jerry Herrick “dressed up” by his wife Shirley. Supper will be served from 5 to 7 pm. There is a $5 per person charge, with kids younger than 5 eating free. Organizers have promised candy for all who come to the supper in costume.
Costumes are again welcome at a costume party and rock show headlined by Through the Dorkness with special guests Crashing Silence and Stone Park Ritual. The party is slated for 7:30 pm to midnight at the Elks lodge in Jefferson.
Through the Dorkness, aka Through the Darkness, has primarily Grand Junction talent, with Tyler and Andrew Gathercoal, Kristopher James, Cameron Stevens, Justin Saffell and Joe Swanson.
The band formed early this year and gelled quickly to place in the final four os Lazer 103.3’s Battle of the Bands. The musicians’ goals are to make music and to inspire everyone to “make the best of our short time on this Earth,” the band’s Facebook page says.
There will be contests and prizes for scariest, sexiest, and most creative costumes. There is a $10 admission charge, with all proceeds going to the Community Center.
